Unit 8 blogging assignment

Hello everyone:

As I look back over what we have done in this class there is so much that will help me as I walk through life and on into helping others. When I think of the exercises we have done I think the two that are most effective for me was the visualization and loving kindness. These tow work hand in hand to me as I think of that special person in my life I think of the loving kindness that they have put fourth in life and this is the same thing I want to do in my life is to always show that loving kindness and be there for those that are put in my path. Some time is it just a matter of saying good morning to someone and that makes their day. We don't know how many people out there don't have that person in their life to say good morning to them. I want to treat all people the same and not pick and chose who I work with.  I think this is partly looking back over my life and seeing how people would just ignore others because of their back ground or their knowing their family and judging them on that. I think this is so wrong we have to help each individual form where they are to where they can go and we have to help see where they can go and some times help them get there.

I think using all the exercise will benefit me to increase my mental fitness. I know I have struggled with them all but I will continue to work on that and try to improve my over all mental fitness so that I can be able to relate to others as I reach out to them in this area. I guess we have to go through this process so then we can really relate to others as they begin this journey and have the same struggles as we have had. As I have said in the past to clear my mind is really hard one because it is hard for me to fine a quiet place as my husband always has the radio or T.V on, another because there has been so much going on in my life that my mind is always racing. So I will be working on this and try a figure out how I can work to find that place in my life where I can have the meditation time. Right know it is driving to work as I listen to my Christian music the words from the songs really touch my heart and so maybe that is what I need for know and later on it can go to a more quiet and clearing the mind type of meditation. When I hear the words of the song that is all I hear and think about and it lifts me up and prepares me for the day of work ahead. So is this meditation or not I am not sure but that is what I am going to call it for the time being and then move forward from this point on into the future. I think at times we have to be happy with what we can do for the tiem and just know that in the future we can work to improve the process.

Thanks to all for all your positive feed back
Jackie

Jackie.... It is comforting to find a life experience that offers a connection between the inner and outer shell. When there is harmony between the two energy flows intuitively in the direction of its original source. We find many outlets that can bring these events to our consciousness. The enjoyment is grand. There are many on the same pathway and our paths cross frequently.

  2. Hi Jackie, I enjoyed your post and I like the fact that you have been focusing on loving kindness and that this aspect has been the easiest for you. I also agree that we don't know which people do not have anyone to just say "good morning" too, or to hear it themselves. As this was a harder aspect for me, I started a little experiment, Where ever I went throughout my day I focused on the people around me, I smiled, I said good morning or afternoon. Had conversations with people in the home improvement and grocery store. This was vastly different then running into a store getting what I needed and running out, not noticing one other person. What I realized is I probably made someone's day, but I also had better days myself. I truly enjoyed talking with complete strangers.
Also, I would say also that meditation is whatever works for you. It can be being at peace while listening to your Christian music, or just taking some quiet time in your garden. Do what works for you, and I wish you many blessings on your journey.
    Peace ~ Robin

  3. There is no right or wrong way to increase your mental fitness. The one thing I have learned from this course is that each experience for each person will be different. Just like no two people are alike, no mental fitness journey is alike. If your Christian music seems to be the meditation you need at the time, then use it. It is better to find the peace and serenity somewhere rather than not have it at all. I find that I would go to the local park or sit out on my swing at home to get the quiet I needed to do my meditation or just to refresh my mind. I’m not sure if this is an option for you, but I know it has helped with my issues of mind racing. I’m sure in a few weeks the mosquitoes will probably want to carry me off so my swing may be out of the question, but for now it is my favorite get-away. Just keep doing what you are doing and working toward a strong mental fitness no matter how it is you have to reach your goal. I wish you all the luck and truly enjoy reading your posts.

  4. Hi Jackie! I don't really think that there is a right or wrong way to meditate, and in my experience, nothing worth doing is easy. Music is a great way to see inside yourself. Different types of music will elicit different emotions, from sadness to happiness to elation. I like to listen to "oldies" because they conjure up good memories for me. Dwelling for a time on my "foot loose" and "fancy free" days always brings a smile and carefree feelings!! Try to remember that every destination is the result of a journey that takes one step at a time, and the path to human flourishing is no different. Even if they are only baby steps, continue...and Journey On!

  5. Jackie~
Great post~ It is nice to read your honesty and how you are still working on the different exercises that we have done this term. I understnad baout mind racing, there is always something going on to think about. Clearing the mind is a struggle for many people (me included) but I think with practice you will get it!
    Best wishes~

  6. Great post! I have learned a lot from this class as well. The biggest is how to take control of stress using meditation. This has helped me very much in the last few weeks as I struggled for years to control thoughts and stress during daily life. Because of the techniques taught here, I have a better control over things and don't let them control how I live my life anymore.
